Transient Glitch is meant to be a new rock-out, “shredder” piece, taking heavy inspiration from rock n’ roll and jazz, fuzed with contemporary classical composition. The glitch aspect of the piece results from tuning the viola to A-D-G-B, and “correcting” it by the end to its normal state, A-D-G-C. Throughout the work, the pianist is instructed to reach inside the piano to activate harmonic nodes and create “popcorn” effects. The piece is intended to engage classically trained performers with opportunities to rock out, smash some keys, and jam on the concert stage.
